September is for Reading Series

I read 6 sequels last month from some of my favorite series, which included these books: Archenemies, Finale, Thunderhead, Gemina, Rebel, and Five Dark Fates.  I also had Muse of Nightmares on my list but wasn’t able to finish it, and now it’s on my TBR for November.

Okay, so first I’d like to say that I enjoyed every single book I read in September.  All of them were SO very good and I can’t wait to finish off some of the series that didn’t end with the book I read.

For example…Thunderhead had me in shock as I read the ending!  Yes, the story throughout was engaging and fast paced, but the ending made me pause before I could even put the book down. I might have even read the ending twice! It was so good that I cannot image how the series is going to end or even how the next book is going to start.  I will definitely be reading the third book and then possible reviewing the full series on my blog – so stay tuned for that.

Another book that had my head reeling was Gemina, the second book in the Illuminae Files series.  This was another book that was mind boggling. I don’t want to give anything away, but the ending had me rethinking the story and, again, wondering how the third book would start.  I know this sounds vague and, if you haven’t read it, this probably doesn’t make much sense but the twist to the story’s ending kind of made my head hurt…in a good way, I think!

Okay, I know I really like Archenemies as well because I gave it a 4.5 rating on Goodreads, but my mind is drawing a blank as to the storyline and the ending to this book…which probably isn’t a good thing.  However, from my rating and the comments I made at the time I rated it, my past me was excited about the series so I’ll be picking up book three when it comes out next month. But it seems I might have to reread this book to remind myself why I liked it so much!

Then I finished some amazing series as well.

I read Finale, which is the third and final book in the Caraval series and liked it but thought it wasn’t as good as the first two.  It didn’t have the mystery feel like Caraval or Legendary, but then Legendary already revealed so much of this world that Finale was more of a  history of how things came to be; like where Legendary’s magic came from, their Mom’s past, and the rise and fall of the Fates. I enjoyed the book and learning about these things, but it felt a bit different than the first two books.  Plus, I think this book was very Tella heavy and I didn’t like how the storyline took you on two journeys – one with Tella and Legendary and the other with Scarlett and Donte.  I would have preferred if the story involved them all working together since we already experienced the separate storylines of each sister in the previous two books.

I also read Five Dark Fates which closed out the Three Dark Crown series and although I really liked this world and the characters, this book fell kind of flat.  Although I rated Five Dark Fates pretty high (because I liked the majority of the book), the book still left me with a lot of questions that I think it should have answered since this was the last book and the conclusion of the series.  And the stuff it didn’t answer, such as the mysterious rising of the mist, are crucial elements to the story which, I believe, should have been answered in this book.  Overall, I loved this series and highly recommend it.

Rebel was another book I read in September that finished off a series and I really enjoyed this book. Even though this book was written back in 2014, I can still see the series continuing since the ending to Rebel began the next chapter in the history of this world. Even if the author never revisits this world again, I felt the ending was satisfactory, but being a fan of the series, I wouldn’t mind another book about Wren and Callum.

So overall, I had a great reading month in September, and I am nappy that I was able to continue or finish these series.

If you would like to friend me on Goodreads and keep up to date on what I’m reading, I’d love to be your friend!  Here’s the link to my profile page:
