My First Owlcrate Jr Unboxing

It’s been over a month that I have been on YouTube and I think it’s making me love books even more!  This might not be a good thing since my love for books is already pretty bad.  I have so many books on my TBR pile and now that I am taking part in watching BookTube videos, I find my list is growing…

This brings me to my most recent purchase and why I’m writing this post.  I have discovered the wonderful world of subscription boxes and I have finally succumbed to the temptation of purchasing one of them.  The one I chose was Owlcrate Jr because I love the simple stories geared towards 8-12 year old grade schoolers.  These are the types of books I like to read when I just want a good story without the added hassle of thinking…haha, that sounds terrible, but it’s true.

For example, I’m in the middle of reading book two in the Game of Thrones series…and let me tell you, I’m on page 530 and I’m only half way through the book!  This story has SO many characters, cities, and subplots that it makes my head hurt a little (in a good way).  It’s an intense book and I am really enjoying the story, but there is a lot of information to process while reading it.  When I’m involved in a book like this, it’s a good distraction to pick up a children’s book and follow the fun, light-hearted adventure within its pages.

So, when I chose my first subscription box I decided to pick this age group.  Oh!  And another reason I picked this one was because of the content in the book(s).  I’m a PG13 reader and I’m not much for gore, sexual situations, or profanity (yeah, I know I’m reading Game of Thrones…insert irony here). Since you don’t know what book you are going to receive in the subscription box, I thought I had a better chance of getting books without this type of content if I picked this age group.

My first Owlcrate Jr box arrived on Friday, August 18th.   I was surprised it arrived so fast since it was coming from Canada and they ship the boxes around the 15th of each month.  When it came, my excitement was so great I almost opened the box right then and there, but I didn’t because I knew I wanted to video my experience on my YouTube channel.  When I finally had time to record the video, it was 3 days later!  I don’t know how I held out for so long.

I’ll post my video below, but here are a few pictures of what came in the August box which was themed “Into the Woods”.
