This weekend I finally made it to the store; my goal was to buy some crayons or markers. No, I wasn’t buying a gift for a kid’s birthday party…I was buying them for me! Last month my sister gave me a coloring journal for my birthday called “Coffee Time – Quiet Time Journal”. I was very excited to receive this gift and I was eager to use it. But there was one problem, I didn’t have any coloring pens/pencils, markers, or crayons! I am happy to report I now have the needed supplies to use this beautiful journal!
I set up my station and opened the journal to the first page. It was kind of hard to get into the creative mode of coloring since I haven’t colored in ages. After selecting a few colors, I began to fill in or outline the pictures and after I colored a few of them I was not pleased with my color selections. As I gazed at my work, my husband asked how I was doing and if he could see what I colored. I showed him and he smiled. I expressed I wasn’t very happy with my color choices and he said to keep going, it was supposed to be relaxing. So I told myself not to be a perfectionist and to have fun! It worked and I was able to get into the enjoyable pastime of coloring.

I used both markers and coloring pencils. The markers leaked a little through the paper, but it wasn’t too bad. I loved the coloring pencils i bought – no sharpening needed, just twist to sharpen!
I know it’s going to be a regular activity for me as I take a few moments to relax, sit back, and journal or color in my Coffee Time – Quiet Time Journal. My next step is to create my journaling basket. I already know what I want to put in it: markers/crayons, M&M’s, some tea bags, my Bible, and a CD of classical music! Now that sounds like a basket I’d reach for to relax and de-stress from a long workday! Since I work a few nights at my second job, my goal is to try and do this at least twice a week.
Thank you, Linda, for sharing the fun of coloring and for giving me this journal. It’s going to be well used and cherished!
