The Great Flood of 1969

Has anyone heard of El Nino? They say it’s supposed to hit California pretty hard, but the weather here has been consistently in the 70’s and 80’s with blue skies and puffy white clouds. Due to the beautiful clouds we’ve been having, the sunrises and sunsets have been amazing – rich orange and red tones streaked across the sky. And although the temperature drops during the night, there hasn’t been any rain yet. Needless to say, with all the hype, I’m ready for some storms to hit…although it would be nice to have the rain without the mudslides and floods that are typical for this area.

Since El Nino has been on everybody’s mind, a work friend recently sent an email to everyone in the office about the flooding of 1969. I thought it had some interesting historical information about the storms that hit Ventura County and the affects the rain had on the community. Knowing a storm is predicted to hit soon, I hope the article brings awareness to those who live in the area. Right now is the perfect time to get ready – keep an emergency kit handy and available in case it’s needed when El Nino hits.

Here is a helpful link I found that can help you prepare for the upcoming storm:

Hopefully we’ll get the much needed rain without the troublesome aftereffects.

Stay safe and keep warm!
